Edith Cowan University (jdb电子官网) Associate Dean of Computing and Security Professor Paul Haskell-Dowland has been given the opportunity to travel overseas to meet with other leading cyber security experts at some of the world’s most prestigious international conferences.
Announced as a winner of Business Event’s Perth's 2022 Aspire Awards.
"The Aspire Awards is a fantastic recognition of the work that I have engaged in over the last 20 years.
"It is not just a personal recognition, but also one for the School of Science as well," Professor Haskell-Dowland said.
He's one of eleven of Western Australia’s exceptional researchers, academics and professionals who has been awarded a travel grant to meet other experts at the conferences to be held in Europe.
"I hope not only to be able to represent Australia, but to interact with new contacts across Europe and to also offer new opportunities to colleagues here in Australia," he said.
Professor Haskell-Dowland has been recognised not only for his outstanding contribution to education and research, but also his expansive media commentary.
With a global audience of more than two billion people, Professor Haskell-Dowland is recognised as a 'go-to' on any cyber security issue.
"I've had a lifetime career in the university sector and taken academic leadership roles for the last 20 years alongside an active engagement with cyber security research."
Business Events Perth CEO Gareth Martin said Business Events Perth is proud to recognise a cohort of WA's brightest minds and provide them opportunities to showcase the State to the international community, through this program.
"The recipients of the 2022 Aspire Awards represent the diversity of Western Australia's research and entrepreneurial strengths and exemplify the innovation that Western Australia is renowned for globally.
"The benefits of attending in-person conferences are invaluable and we are honoured to provide the opportunity to share these benefits with some of Western Australia's brightest. Meeting face-to-face facilitates positive collaboration and networking opportunities.
"We're extremely honoured to be supporting our 2022 Aspire recipients to attend international conferences, where they will meet with other leaders in their fields and create opportunities to bring those conferences to Western Australia in the future," Mr Martin said.
Professor Haskell-Dowland hopes to use the conferences as an opportunity for developing international relationships to advance Australia’s cyber security capabilities and to specifically promote Western Australia's cyber expertise.
"Cyber security is an area where we can make a difference, we can have an impact and for me that's really important," he said.
